I'll get around to playing it eventually (I STILL need to finish Ni no Kuni, and eventually get around to Valkyria Chronicles), but to my credit I did at least give MH3 a shot. I like the game, no question; it's super-interesting to watch as a spectator -- my bro's gotten a TON of mileage out of it -- and I like the whole "down to earth" aesthetic. It's a real change of pace.

But I have a certain issue with the game. In my first run, I went out and killed one of the baby animals in the starting area. And as soon as I realized what I did, I had one of those ever-popular "OH GOD I'M A MONSTER!" moments and -- well, I haven't played it since. But I will again, eventually! It's just that things got a little too real.

*resists urge to make RULES OF NATURE joke/reference*

I'm not doubting that Bravery Default's a bad game, or that the FF talent (or the spirit and wit at least) has gone there. But in all fairness, I still feel like I owe it to myself to give FF more second chances than it deserves, merely because -- hypocritical as it may sound -- it's still FF. The franchise is still going, even if it's a shell of its former self. And if it's still going, it's still deserving of judgment. Playing it? Debatable at this point. But still, it's the principle.

Maybe I really am a monster. Oh, wait, that's long since been established; my cruelty in Smash Bros. has long since been documented.Voltech44noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6904713839696769313.post-18159922704192368252014-05-30T06:27:22.169-07:002014-05-30T06:27:22.169-07:00Want a good final fantasy game? Play Bravely Def...Want a good final fantasy game? Play Bravely Default. My theory is Square passed the torch to BD and let Final Fantasy fester in the Lightning Miasma. I'll try 15. (I played and enjoyed the 14: Realm Reborn, but damn it... it shouldn't have been a numbered game.)

BD has some repetition issues, serious ones, but it scratches all the itches and even injects some "Tales of" magic with amusing skits. Seriously man. A 3DS would cleanse your sanity. And you have a Wii U right? Buy Monster Hunter 3 while you're at it.Eric R. Will 'Lightning Returns' be the Mat...Oh my. Will 'Lightning Returns' be the Matador of video game nightmare fuel or shockingly weak like Slime? (Ok... bad SMT references are done.)

No doubt I think the story will anger you even more, but gameplay? I'm not sure. I've seen clips of people playing it, and the combat seems a bit dizzying. Even more so than in vanilla 13. Maybe the time system will be okay, but since you've played and loved Majora's Mask, you'll probably detest this feature too. The odds seemed stacked against you ever liking it. Perhaps one or two things will make you say, "That's ok. I've seen better, but it's fine." But still, maybe one or two things. I can guarantee the plot won't be one of them.

But 'Watch Dogs'? Being one of the worst games you've ever played? Oh lordy, what did that game do to you? I've seen clips of horrible glitches and nonexistent collision detection - thus ensuring Mr. Brown-haired, Generic, White, Thuggish/Tough, Criminal, Cocky, Assho- I meant "Guy"- to clip through the ground deep into the underworld. A few people also said it was kinda boring or "okay". Apparently a 7/10 from Eurogamer is considering "butchering" for some unfathomable reason. Still, with all the hype it got, I expected people to weep in despair how the game would not justify the 8th generation's existence.

Oh well. Maybe it's best to not understand the mainstream gaming community. Too stressful, too insane with drama.Melanie Lightnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6904713839696769313.post-78129266333705745512014-05-29T13:21:23.810-07:002014-05-29T13:21:23.810-07:00Glad to see that you're gonna review LR:FFXIII...Glad to see that you're gonna review LR:FFXIII. They were always very entertaining to read.

Personally as someone who despite their many, many flaws very much enjoyed it's predecessors, I absolutely hated LR. I think it's the first game ever that I really hated with a passion, though seeing as I don't play that many games, it's no suprise.
Though I could see you prefering it over XIII and XIII-2 if only for the gameplay (even though that still has a very big (imo) design flaw in it). I mean, you're probably already given up on the story (as I did around the halfway point of XIII, which is perhaps the reason why I enjoyed XIII-2).

You shouldn't give up on the Final Fantasy-Franchise just yet. With FFXV on the horizon and Toriyama gone, I think Nomura can bring the FF-Franchise back on track. Are you gonna write a post on your impressions of FFXV's trailers? I would be interested on your thoughts about were the franchise is headed under Nomura's direction.Lewis Liddelnoreply@blogger.com
